What do we do? We can be found at ropings, rodeos, parades, community events, trail rides, cattle drives and horseshows! Lio Lapa'au is about the horses and their healing ways. We embrace the paniolo way that respects land, nature and God's glorious gifts.
Lio Lapa'au means healing horse...
Lio Lapa’au means: Healing Horse. The concept is that horses provide healing and health for humans as they are, in Fern's words, the most noble creatures on earth." Lio Lapa'au provides therapeutic riding services for clients both able bodied and challenged. In addition, Lio Lapa'au provides help for horses and dogs through its education and distribution of all natural Silver Lining Herbs.
Lio Lapa'au is a vision of Fern White that has come to fruition after many years of servicing the equine world of Hawaii and beyond. Fern, Hawaii’s Leading Lady Rider, has won championships in rodeo, showing, reining and multiple All Around High Point titles. She has trained many other riders who have gone on successfully to ride in competitions or for recreation. Fern has trained horses for showing Western or English for herself and many others. Her accomplishments include many American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) Register of Merit horses and Youth Riders Registers of Merit. She remains the only person from Hawaii to have taken her own horse trained and traveled from Hawaii to the AQHA World Championships in Oklahoma where in 2000 Fern won Top Ten title on Royal Merrimaid in the Open division of AQHA Barrel Racing!
Fern is a full time high school English teacher who is National Board Certified since 2003; she was honored as Hawaii’s 2005 Character Educator of the Year and Hawaii Speech League Coach/Communicator of the Year 2008. She was the lead teacher for Kohala High School's successful electric vehicle program where students built alternative energy vehicles for competition that won back to back Best of Show awards. Currently, Fern is the coordinator for the high school's robotics program that has qualified to the VEX World Championships to be held in Dallas Texas!
Fern is dual certified riding instructor: American Riding Instructor Assn. (ARIA) and North American Riding for Handicapped Assn. (NARHA). She is available for riding instruction and clinics to develop or improve horsemanship. She enjoys helping youth and helping animals, especially helping our performance horses and canine friends to perform and feel better.
Lio Lapa'au embraces concepts Fern has lived and loved all her life. It is about horses healing people through therapeutic interaction. It is about people healing horses through all natural health products, nutrition and nurturing. Welcome and Aloha from the world of Hawaiian Cowgirl.
